Deventer Boekenmarkt (2015)

Every year, there is a book fair in Deventer in the Netherlands. This is the largest book fair in Europe for antique and second hand books. I found out about it years ago, but never went until last year. Man, that was amazing and horrible at the same time.

My mom loves books just as much as me, and thus, we embarked on this mission together, not quite knowing what to expect. And well, it was obvious that we were not prepared for the awesomeness of this fair. Sure, we brought a bag to put the books in that we might buy and we laughed a bit about those silly people with their trolleys. After a couple of hours and about ten new (ok, pre-loved) books later, we wished we had one of those trolleys.

This year, we took a trolley as well!

Here are some pictures of the fair. Since I spent my time looking at all the books, I did forget to take more pictures. All the books I bought, I’ll show you in my Sunday Post of this week.

All the stands on the other side of the Ijssel river. They’re on both sides of the street and this is only a small part of the total amount.

Waiting for the ferry to take us to the other side. This is my mom. It’s her fault I spend so much money on books all the time.

A sign that says: “Heave book bag?” and continues to offer to take it to a drop off point for you, so you don’t have to carry your bags yourself. This happens all the time, which is why we brought a trolley

Me and Alex (my boyfriend). He doesn’t care much for books, but he was nice enough to come and drag the trolley around all day.

My mom and mine’s combined haul! The Queen of the Tearling I got from Anniemieke, who I met at the Boekenmarkt. Check out her blog!

In total, we were there from 9.30am till 3pm and never looked at the same vendor twice. There were so many different vendors! Even though we were there so long, we still missed a couple of vendors, but we were just too tired and hot to continue (it was over 30ºC!).

All in all, we had an amazing and successful day. I can’t wait for next year, because there are still more books I’d like!

  1. It was so hot, haha. Great haul. I see Oorlogswinter. I doubted about buying some books by Thea Beckham for a while, but I really need to go through my own children’s books (that are still at my parents) first. Now we only have most of Maarten’s collection at our house.
